Residents of Congress Park love their older homes and intensely proud of their diverse neighborhood. The community’s namesake park features pristine grounds, a children’s playground and the popular and recently renovated outdoor swimming pool. In the late 1890’s the City of Denver converted an unkempt cemetery into what we now know as Congress Park – since U.S. Congressional approval was necessary for the conversion they named it Congress Park. It is not uncommon to hear ghost stories about this area; once the conversion was approved families had 90 days to move their loved ones buried in the cemetery, after that a local undertaker was paid $1.90 per grave to finish the task, many poor souls were left behind hence ghost stories.

The neighborhood is bordered by Colorado Blvd on the east, Josephine Street on the west, and Sixth Avenue on the south, and 17th Avenue on the north. You will find wonderful older homes with character and charm; from the big Denver Squares to Victorians and the sturdy bungalows. There is an array of architectural styles and sizes of homes throughout the community. Residents enjoy a range of restaurants, quirky coffee shops, a post office and an Ace Hardware store all within walking distance. Cherry Creek, the Denver Botanical Gardens, the Denver Zoo, Museum of Natural History and of course the Molly Brown House all surround this popular area.
